Frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis are fatal and incurable neurodegenerative diseases linked to the pathological aggregation of the TDP-43 protein. This is an essential DNA/RNA-binding protein involved in transcription regulation, pre-RNA processing, and RNA transport.
