objective: The current scenario of COVID-19 pandemic has presented an almost insurmountable challenge even for the most sophisticated hospitals equipped with modern biomedical technology. There is an urgency to develop simple, fast and highly accurate methods for the rapid identification and isolation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infected patients.
