Autoimmune disorders, such as multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes, occur when immune cells fail to recognize "self" molecules. Recently, studies have revealed aberrant inflammatory signaling through pathogen sensing pathways, such as toll-like receptors (TLRs), during autoimmune disease.
